ICYMI - OpenAI and Anthropic are racing to partner with PE firms to deploy AI across their portfolio companies. You probably saw the Anthropic news this morning: They're finalizing a $1.5B JV with Blackstone, Goldman Sachs, and Hellman & Friedman anchoring the company. Goldman is putting in $150mm while the other three are investing roughly $300mm each. This AI-native enterprise services firm will deploy Claude across PE portfolio companies. General Atlantic, Leonard Green, Apollo, GIC, and Sequoia are also a part of it. But this pales in comparison to OpenAI who just raised $4B for a $10B JV to deploy AI across portfolio companies. There's 19 investors that include TPG, Bain, Brookfield, Advent, Dragoneer, and SoftBank. These partners collectively have more than 2,000 portfolio companies and clients. Clearly lines are being drawn in the sand here. PE Firms are picking sides in the Claude vs. ChatGPT war.

Regardless of the GameStop debacle, I'm glad Ryan Cohen created Chewy. It's cool and good that we can get pet food & prescriptions DTC.
