Christina Clarke at #YEN2026 shows the value and of high yields from 13 years of YEN data - ⬆️ gross margin £/ha ⬇️ £/t ⬇️ GHGs/t ⬇️ N balance. @ADASGroup

@drkindred @ADASGroup Amongst all the doom & gloom amidst farming currently, YEN really is a positive project for UK arable farming to look up to - a real shame it is coming to an end. Optimising economic crop output (regardless of system) remains key to navigating the choppy waters ahead

@loosecollie Backs up our own findings - if arable land is not performing close to top 25% then cultivation systems/soil structure+fertility/rotations need thoroughly reviewing to highlight any potential for improvement or alternative rotational options...

@farmerrups Indeed - now 55mm & more to come. Good job Autumn drilling is pretty much done 👍

Great to be back at the wonderful The Alresford Show & to meet up with local farmers @cropadvisors #independentagronomy

@AdasBlake Worst affected crops could see some significant yield reductions I fear - I recall some "old" ADAS trials showing c.2.5t/ha yield losses

@EwenMcEwen Will no doubt require "Sustainable Intensification" to get there on the basis that will probably only be farming 80% current productive land by then allowing for SFI etc/Re-forestation/BNG etc 🤔

A very concerning development as Italian Ryegrass is already becoming more problematic within arable rotations & could quickly spread via wind borne pollen to other areas - will need a zero tolerance management approach otherwise land will potentially become unsuitable for crops

Breaking news: UK's first case of glyphosate-resistant weeds confirmed on a farm in Kent. Glyphosate is probably the most important herbicide for UK farmers and there is no obvious replacement. "Any case of resistance is concerning," says @ADASGroup scientist John Cussans, who led the research. “But we must retain perspective – it’s resistance in one weed species on one farm, it is not a widespread problem yet." How independent is the trials data that YOU use to make decisions on farm? Day 2 of the #AICC2025 Conference will start by looking at independent trials data produced for the exclusive use of AICC members #independent #agronomy aicc.org.uk/aicc-events

We have an “Ask the experts disease control panel” at #AICC2025 in January including @allohexaploid @niabgroup, and @AdasBlake @ADASGroup, debating what happened in 2024, and the lessons we can take forward for coming seasons. #independent #agronomy aicc.org.uk/aicc-events

@Jes_Squirrell @bleating_lamb @anthonybecvar Objectives of SOH1 are laudable but just isn't enough flexibility for widespread adoption - two obvious exemptions would be for farms renting out ground for Potatoes etc & shallow incorporation of Sewage cake/manures (the latter are clearly desirable for improving soil health)
