Outrage over sentence handed to New Jersey father who DECAPITATED a Seagull for trying to eat his daughter's fries
A New Jersey man was given a 'slap on the wrist' after he admitted to decapitating the Seagull, animal rights advocates say.
Franklin Ziegler, 30, pleaded guilty to animal cruelty charges stemming from the July 2024 incident on the North Wildwood boardwalk, WPVI reported.
North Wildwood Police were called to investigate the incident on the boardwalk at Morey's Piers after Ziegler asked staff for a trash bag while holding the dead bird in his hands.
Doll Stanley, the senior campaigner for In Defense of Animals' Justice, told the outlet Ziegler's sentencing is only a 'slap on the wrist.'
'This was a brutal act of torture committed in broad daylight in front of children,' said Stanley.

Imagine chasing a stag to exhaustion with a relay of hounds, supporters in cars using their horns to distress the stag and then shoot the poor animal, meat inedible because of stress. Instead trophies are cut off the stag. Apparently scientific research is the loophole.

The Heythrop Hunt - one of the hunts exposed on Channel 4 News recently - recently killed a fox in a private garden and trespassed to retrieve the body. On Monday the 16th of March, the Quantock Staghounds forced this stag to endure a five-and-a-half-hour chase. The stag then became trapped against a fence and was shot while a hunt saboteur from Mendip Hunt Sabs witnessed their final moments. On Friday 6th March 2026, the day before their Point‑to‑Point, the Duke of Beaufort Hunt were once again caught hunting and killing a fox. This latest incident follows a recent Channel 4 News exposé which featured the Beaufort, alongside other hunts, actively hunting and killing foxes.
Attending police officers from Wiltshire Police, failed to speak to the hunt or locate the evidence - instead focusing on seizing the sabs drone on which the kill was filmed!
