This was the full statement by the U.S. delegate. Yes, he accurately clocked Ghana for trying to attach itself to the victims (OUR ancestors), but also gave a laundry list of bogus opposition points. Same as in 2016.



An African American woman strongly defended Ghana in a heated exchange with a group of protesters demonstrating against President John Dramani Mahama’s proposal for a UN resolution to recognize transatlantic slavery as the “gravest crime against humanity.” During the verbal altercation, one of the protesters who took the video made unsubstantiated claims that Ghana was complicit in the slave trade and portrayed the country as an unsafe destination for African Americans, alleging that discrimination remains prevalent. Except Africa built no wealth from the slave trade. Europeans gave booze & guns to stupefy, disorient, & destroy African societies. Some regions did not recover from the population drain of Transatlantic slavery until a few decades ago. Slavery opened the door for colonialism.
