When the feds started investigating, UC renamed its DEI offices to things like "Office of Culture and Inclusive Excellence." The staff stayed. The budget stayed. The name got longer. Prop 13 is the California family trust fund of state policy. Granny buys a LA beach shack in 1980 for $80k, it’s now worth $4M. She passes it to her grandkid, who pays taxes on $80k. Meanwhile the transplant renting the converted garage pays $50k/year in rent

How much does it pay? Genuinely asking. My experience from the US (where I grew up) is people pound the table about skills shortages and when you ask what they’re paying, it’s equivalent to working at Walmart in a no-skill job.

The current chaos at airports is just another argument for privatizing airport security. TSA agents are horrible at their jobs. The DHS admitted back in 2017 that, when tested, TSA misses up to EIGHTY PERCENT of weapons and contraband smuggled through screening. And now we have to wait in line for three hours because funding for an incompetent agency with an 80 percent failure rate is being held hostage. The whole thing is insane. Get the government out of airport security. They suck at it. And it's just another bargaining chip these sociopaths can use for their own political agendas.
