1. Great short stories in the 6th @Efikomag issue—all edited by the fantastic @ladiopaluwa. 2. Ernest Ogunyemi chose smashing poems, including a funny one about fake Adidas shoes. 3. And a GLORIOUS essay from a former Christian. 4. All African, all at efikomag.com.

Jay McInerney thought he wouldn’t live long enough to worry about any of this. “My role models were all dead by 44. Dylan Thomas was 39. Keats was 26. Fitzgerald was 44.” nytimes.com/2026/04/16/sty…

Finance people here say Nigerians have a numbers problem. Strange to see that it extends to nutritional formulations. There's really no reason this particular tweet should spur outrage. It's basic math and common sense.
gst@wearegst

No. Maggi bouillon in Nigeria reaches up to 25g sodium/100g. That’s nearly 60% above the WHO benchmark for bouillon (15g/100g) and the EU’s maggi bouillon formulations. Nestlé’s double standards and NAFDAC’s laxity is causing harm to Nigerians.

This is the Arsenal that wants to beat Manchester City this weekend? They can't even get corners or crosses right. An embarrassing defeat cometh for Arteta and his fellow clowns.

I don't like the afrobeats conversation where we only think in terms of artistes who transitioned into the streaming era, ergo, the Big Three. My Afrobeats appreciation still includes P-Square, Tuface, D'banj and dem

One reason Afrobeats is not a great genre is this: Its Big 3 have only 1 classic album between them: Wizkid's Superstar. Davido makes good (not great) albums. Burna Boy came close with African Giant but he should have made On the Low its last track. LIFE has a similar flaw.

If the Afrobeats genre's goal is dancing in the age of short attention spans, the single almost certainly works best. Which means if these guys—Wizkid, Burna, and Davido—didn't produce classic albums as their debuts or sophomores, there's no chance they can do so anymore.

We have to litigate Superstar someday, though. And maybe Afrobeats just isn't a genre suited to the album as a music format.

I don't think Burna Boy has a classic album yet. African Giant is the closest he's come, but we're still waiting for the one that truly defines him. The talent is undeniable. The conscious musician is not him, though.

One problem of genuine criticism in a sub-educated country is the idea that massive success equals virtue—or excellence, even. But it's fair to demand consistency within a story & from a tradition, even one mostly celebrating fame, as is the case with all Funke Akindele movies.
Dasilva Ayomide@ayomide_dasilva

Finally, reducing the film’s success to “lowest common denominator” thinking is a tired argument. Consistently drawing large audiences is not accidental; it reflects an understanding of viewers that many critics lack. You don’t have to like the film, but denying its effectiveness

I recall refreshing my tiny phone in a pharmaceutical chemistry lab in my final year in UNIBEN around 2/3am. I just wanted to follow the New York Times Oscar live-text commentary. To go from that to being able to watch the ceremony itself on my phone. What a time to be alive.

@tkb417 8/10 only because I completely predicted the scene where the wife was recording you know what. It was too easy for me to guess. I didn't like that.

I hardly watch movies and I watch when someone randomly vouches for one. @tkb417 posted about 'The Beast In Me' (NETFLIX) being a 10/10. Considering the credibility of the source, I jumped in. At least 8/10.
