In 2021 I started filling in for KPIX, knowing there was an expiration date. O/U was set at two weeks. I lasted two years. My final show is tonight. Grateful for the incredible experience, but am officially a Free Agent. I have an extremely versatile skill set Tape below 👇🏻

The #Warriors are on pace for 36 turnovers through a quarter. 1-9 from three and have given up separate 12-0 and 9-0 runs already.

The scoreboard broke at the #Warriors game, meaning the PA announcer is telling fans the score after every bucket. It’s 122-103 not 116-95 Wemby broke us all.

Victor Wembanyama's stat line in 7 first quarter minutes... #Warriors were getting blasted until he hit the bench, currently down 12 on a little run.

Watching Warriors warmups before Kristaps and Draymond came out really puts into perspective how down bad they are. Cryer, Yurtseven, Leons, Spencer, Richard were the only dudes on the floor for a minute 😩

@cincysports19 @hudsonkeyne It may have subconsciously sparked it in my mind, but I can assure you Houdini and I have had Turkey on our minds for years.

@TheWallyWeldon @PeteThamel @jeffborzello Don’t think you need to include the fairly or not. It was fair, straight up. 5 years no NCAA tourneys when you’d made 9 of the last 10 prior is the easiest benchmark ever to fairly run him out of town.

Good move for Miller and Charlotte. Feels a lot like the Travis Steele-to-Miami hire. Miller’s a really good coach who maximizes talent. He’ll build a strong, consistent program at Charlotte. But at UC, he couldn’t reach the level a lot of fans – fairly or not – expect. At the Power 5 level, coaches are as much NIL managers and salesmen as they are Xs and Os guys. Still, like Steele, Miller would benefit from taking a hard look at his late-game approach.

Sources: Charlotte is hiring Wes Miller as the school’s next head coach, as he’s agreed to a five-year deal, per me and @jeffborzello. He’s the former head coach at Cincinnati and UNC Greensboro.

19 years ago, a high school basketball coach put his team manager into a game for the final four minutes. The kid had never played a single minute of competitive basketball in his life. He scored 20 points. Jason McElwain was diagnosed with severe autism at age two. He didn’t speak until he was five. He couldn’t chew solid food until he was six. He wore a nappy for most of his early childhood. As a baby, he was rigid, wouldn’t make eye contact, and hid in corners away from other children. He tried out for his school basketball team every year and got cut every time. Too small. Too slight. Barely 5’6 and about 54 kilograms. But he loved the game so much that his mum called the school and asked if there was any way he could be involved. The coach created a team manager role for him. For three years, McElwain showed up to every practice and every game. He wore a shirt and tie on match days. He ran drills, handed out water, kept stats, and cheered every basket like he’d scored it himself. On 15 February 2006, the last home game of his final school year, the coach let him suit up in a proper jersey and sit on the bench. With four minutes left and a comfortable lead, the coach sent him in. His first shot missed. His second missed. Then something shifted. He hit a three-pointer. Then another. Then another. His teammates stopped shooting entirely and just kept passing him the ball. He hit six three-pointers and a two-pointer. 20 points in four minutes. The highest scorer in the game. When the final buzzer went, the entire crowd rushed the court and lifted him onto their shoulders. His mum tapped the coach on the shoulder, in tears. “This is the nicest gift you could have ever given my son.” McElwain won the ESPY Award for Best Moment in Sports that year, beating out some of the biggest names in professional sport. He’s 36 now. He works at a local supermarket, coaches basketball, has run 17 marathons including five Boston Marathons, and travels the country speaking about never giving up. When asked about that night, his coach still gets emotional. “For him to come in and seize the moment like he did was certainly more than I ever expected. I was an emotional wreck.”

With Wes Miller out, who should Cincinnati target next? Here’s our early hot board of coaches the Bearcats should be interested in. 👀

How about a high pick and roll action, starting at 5 seconds, ball in Thiam hands with 1 second and a timeout. If I had a 7-year old cousin he would’ve designed better. If I don’t get an announcement in 15 minutes…..

The Wes Miller era ends the only way possible. We’ve seen enough. Like as a signed petition. #Bearcats * If I mush this and they win in the final second I stand by this comment. Just a day later.
