1/3: As reported by @C4News, I urged the Home Office to act with compassion in Hannah Dankwa’s case. I welcome their decision to issue an emergency travel document so Hannah and her daughter can return to the UK. This must now be issued urgently.

@Channel4News I’m saddened that it was reported that I declined to comment on Hannah Amma Dankwa’s case. My office unfortunately saw C4 News’ request after the deadline for comment. I’m now in touch with C4 News & will be reaching out to Hannah & family. This case deserves care & attention.

81-year-old Hannah Dankwa, who has cancer, has found herself stranded after taking a trip to see family in Ghana because of what's being described as an 'irregularity' over her date of birth. Seven years after the Windrush scandal came to light it seems some people from Commonwealth countries who were invited by the government to live and work here in the post war period are still having their British nationality challenged. A Home Office spokesperson said: “While we do not comment on individual passport applications, a passport is only issued once all checks are satisfactorily completed.” We also contacted the Windrush Commissioner. They did not respond.

The Windrush Scandal is ongoing! 81 years old, cancer treatment on hold and unable to return home! I find it really worrying the Windrush Commissioner @CliveFoster3 didn’t respond.
