@CobaltAzurean The originals worked like a credit card, you'd get a monthly bill. Those prepaid gas station ones were handy in an emergency until you did the math. Sprint card was like 3 or 5 cents per minute. The gas station ones were comparable to calling the psychic friends network

The 90s had the best disclaimers for products, and not just because the Micro-Machine Man rattled it off like a coked-out auctioneer, but side effects would include the opposite of the product's intent to the point of death and people still bought that shit 😄

@CobaltAzurean I remember when people could get their own 1-800 numbers so their kids could call home even with no money. Then phone cards became a thing and killed that business model.
