@Tim6992 @Marisya100 @mojo_lisa84354 @marcthiessen I’m old enough to remember when the GOP, the party of conservatives, was the party of “beware of negative unintended consequences.” Hopefully we can at least agree that there is nothing “conservative” about the current GOP.

So many longtime NATO supporters saying the same thing right now. I helped bring Poland, Hungary and Czech Republic into NATO. But denying us basing and overflight is inexcusable, as is their failure to help with Strait of Hormuz. No one asking them to bomb Iran, just let us use our bases and help escort ships. If they can’t do that, NATO has no purpose.
Clifford D. May@CliffordDMay

I'm pro-NATO. But I can't think of a single argument to refute what @MsMelChen says here. Not one. If others can, please weigh in.

@ColyerAndy @mroctober Sorry, absurd tangent time: My favorite axe throw ever. You take another half step from whatever your normal one rotation distance is. Then throw it poll (flat face) first. Like Excalibur, can that make me SecDef?

What’s happening with our Sec of Defense. How do we get rid of all that experience at this time? Help me I don’t get it. Getting rid of The Chaplin leader? What ? We’ve got a war going on and we’re getting rid of most of our experience and knowledge built with uniform time.

@wbridgefa @mroctober It’s not that I hate Hegseth. It’s that he is a guy who has absolutely no business sitting in one of the most important chairs in the world. The world was a much better place when all we knew was that he was the goofy guy who can’t throw an axe.

@ColyerAndy @mroctober There is nothing wrong with “in hindsight I trust a successful leader more than I trust this guy that I also already hate” That doesn’t make firing generals wrong. He’s also going to fire more of them—and not replace them.

@mroctober Obama fired 20 under the most controversial times we faced. Reagan fired 15 inspector generals! Go look at how many were fired as WW2 started. It’s crazy.

@oren_cass Your piece gives the reason why the blanket tariffs were misguided: US talent pipeline wasn’t ready to benefit all at once. Better to focus on acute supply chain issues such as rare earth processing. Otherwise it just ends up being another tax and another way to tick off allies.

The comical collapse of the anti-tariff case gives the strategy a chance to succeed—apparently Pres. Bill Clinton was wrong when he declared, "protectionism is simply not an option because globalisation is irreversible." The US can choose another path. ft.com/content/35f792…

@rklb_invest This is how you know Trump doesn’t like JD. Giving him an impossible job that will get him out of the White House.

Trump is right on Europe likely not having either the willingness or capability to come to aid the US if a big one hits. That big one is Taiwan- and despite a US intervention for a free Taiwan and the global prosperity that brings instead of expanding totalitarian CCP reach- the Europeans are likely to sit that one out completely. “The darkest places in hell are often cited as being reserved for those who maintain their neutrality in times of moral crisis.” - Dante H/T - @CuiBonoCapital

Never forget, Section 5 of the 14th Amendment gives Congress, not SCOTUS, the power to enforce the provisions of the amendment. Ultimately, the political branches get the final say on who is a citizen.

@DanLamothe Can’t imagine serving that long and attaining that rank, just to have a former National Guard Captain turned FoxNews host force your retirement. What a punch in the nuts to end an illustrious career.

This move is a surprise to many relatively senior Army officials. It also comes close to nearly a complete remake of the Joint Chiefs since Hegseth took office. Only Gen. Eric Smith of the Marine Corps and Gen. Chance Saltzman of the Space Force remain from the original team.

STATEMENT: General Randy A. George will be retiring from his position as the 41st Chief of Staff of the Army effective immediately. The Department of War is grateful for General George’s decades of service to our nation. We wish him well in his retirement.

Hegseth has asked the chief of staff to the Army Chief to step down. Randy George previously served as the senior military assistant to SecDef Lloyd Austin during Biden admin. One of the sources said @SecWar wants someone in the role who will implement Trump and Hegseth's vision for the Army.  The vice chief of staff of the Army, Gen. Christopher LaNeve, who was formerly Hegseth's military aide, will likely be considered as a replacement. This is unrelated to the helicopter flyby at Kid Rock's home, I'm told. @Tim6992 @Marisya100 @marcthiessen I agree with your premise. What Pelosi does, and many other Reps and Senators do, is legal and shouldn't be. What Trump and his friends and family do is illegal. To the extent that Biden's family did this or anything else illegal, I'd be delighted to see them prosecuted.

@Marisya100 @Tim6992 @marcthiessen I’m just bitter that I don’t get to participate in all of the Oval Office insider trading that the Trump friends and family do. Makes me grumpy!

@Marisya100 @Tim6992 @marcthiessen Marisya, you need to be more respectful. Assuming Tim can bench press at least 225 and rip off 20 pull ups, you're texting with the next Attorney General of the US.
