For now, China holds a structural lead: 🔴 around 50% of global production 🔴 deep integration across African value chains, from extraction to processing 🔴 a position built through long-term, state-backed engagement since the mid-2000s But the United States, alongside its allies, is accelerating its push to rebalance the equation: 🔵 bilateral mineral agreements 🔵 financing mining and infrastructure projects 🔵 diplomatic and security support tied to resource access For its part, China is adopting a more calibrated posture, promoting “open and inclusive” trade while warning against “exclusionary” Western-led blocs. China’s advantage is structural, spanning the entire value chain, from upstream assets to processing capacity. Beyond resources, the real leverage lies in control over value chains.
