Fair is Foul, and … 6 Aug - 27 Aug C+ Space X The Lab The exhibition "Fair is Foul, and …" explores the paradoxical nature of human existence, perception, and experience, at the same time, it questions the duality of it. Borrowed from Shakespeare’s Macbeth, the phrase "Fair is foul, and foul is fair" encapsulates the complex interplay between appearance and reality, suggesting that what seems beautiful or good on the surface may be hiding something sinister or undesirable, and vice versa. This paradoxical statement speaks to the deceptive nature of human perception and the often hidden truths beneath outward appearances. It highlights the ambiguity and duality of human experience, where moral and aesthetic judgments can be overturned, and what is considered fair (beautiful, just) might be foul (ugly, unjust) upon closer inspection. Each artwork within this exhibition acts as a reflective surface, inviting viewers to question and contemplate the essence of being through paradoxical lenses. The arrangement of the antimetabole in the original sentence with an ellipsis opens up the possibility of exploring "chaos" and challenging dualism. As visitors traverse these evocative landscapes of thought and emotion, they are invited to question their assumptions, embrace ambiguity, and find beauty in the contradictions that define existence. From August of last year to March or April of this year, the artist engaged with an urban village in Shenzhen in six different roles: art student, "Hakka person," community resident, advertising designer, night market vendor, and community kindergarten art education teacher. Through the overlapping of these various identities, the artist felt and observed the exclusivity and cohesiveness within this urban village, which consists of 70% Hakka people. In response to this issue, the artist used the method of art education.
