To prepare for severe storms today: • Sign up for Alert DC • Secure outdoor items • Brings pets inside • Make sure you've charged your devices and flashlights • Check on vulnerable neighbors • Stay inside • Never attempt to drive through flooded roads If a Tornado Warning is issued, please move immediately to the lowest level of your building and shelter in an interior room away from windows.

🚨 The National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Watch in the District of Columbia until 7PM today, 3/16. A Tornado Watch means that tornadoes are possible in the area. Very strong and dangerous winds may cause downed trees/branches, localized power outages, and damage to homes and buildings. BEFORE A TORNADO: - Secure loose outdoor objects like trash cans, outdoor furniture, and other items that could become dangerous flying debris during a tornado. - Charge your phone and other communication, medical, or assistive devices in case of a power outage. - Identify a safe space to shelter if a Tornado Warning is issued. DURING A TORNADO: - Go to the nearest sturdy building if you are outside or in a vehicle. - Move to an interior room on the lowest floor if possible. STAY AWAY from windows.

Due to the forecasted severe inclement weather, DGS and @dcpublicschools are closely monitoring the impact on schools. We are working to address issues that arise, including providing any necessary contingencies.

Due to the forecasted severe weather, DCPS will close schools two hours early on Monday, March 16. Afterschool and evening activities are cancelled. Staff will remain at school until all students are safely dismissed.
