The Monday Night Project: A Safe Space for Women in Need Created in March 2023 by Sergeant Rebecca Richardson of the Durham Regional Police Service – Human Trafficking Unit (HTU), The Monday Night Project (MNP) is a bi-weekly, drop-in support group designed to provide a safe and welcoming space for street-based sex workers, survivors of human trafficking, and women at risk. The Monday Night Project (MNP) is a bi-weekly drop-in group that provides a safe space for street-based sex workers, survivors of human trafficking, and women at risk. MNP collaborates with over 16 community partners, including the Region of Durham Social Services ( including Outreach, PCOP, MHOP), DCHC, Victim Services of Durham Region, and DUO drop-in staff. The project offers essential resources such as support for reporting "bad dates" and offenses, access to housing, clothing, food, health promotion supplies, and information sharing. Since its inception, MNP has held 48 sessions, supporting over 600 women. Attendance has steadily increased through word-of-mouth, ensuring participant safety and privacy. The project always seeks donations (e.g., clothing, food) and assistance connecting women who may benefit from these services.
