The George Orwell of our time wouldn't surface, because he (or she) would parody things that the publishing world deems blasphemous. Any good satire will be hidden away; if there's a modern Kundera, they'd be censored by editors ignoring or no-platforming the writer & copy.

There's a lot in the world to satirise at the moment. But the worrying thing is that those who commission satire - literary agents, comedy bookers - are more often than not in agreement with the things to be satirised (eg. compelled pronouns). A very censorious artistic period.
