When the U.K. Foreign Office considered denying North Koreans visas to play at the 1966 World Cup, FIFA told the FA that they would immediately relocate the tournament. That was when FIFA still had something remotely resembling a spine.

You are not doing the world a favor for hosting the World Cup. You bid to host it because of the advantage that comes with hosting it. You should not deny millions of fans the right to see their countries play the beautiful football. If you think your national security is at risk, transfer the right to another country to do so. Football is bigger than you, it’s everyone’s sport.

South Africa, Germany and other recent #WorldCup hosts were forced by FIFA to promise all accredited officials, players and staff would be guaranteed visas and minimal immigration interference for the tournament duration. Why is the United States exempt from that @FIFAcom?

Qatar said it doesn’t matter who you are or where you come from, you can come to the World Cup, just don’t drink alcohol at the stadium. USA said you can’t come. Who you are or where you come from matters. We’ll decide who can and can’t participate. This isn’t a sport for everyone.
