The only two things I can honestly think of is that she possibly isn't capable (currently) of being on her own and is probably dependent on him. (I don't really believe this) or that she truly does love him and is willing to "forgive and forget" because of how long they've been together, some people just aren't willing to lose that or give up. They feel it makes them stronger in the end. Horrible situation for her to be in, but man she is stronger than me. I personally wouldn't.
