The EU supports its citizens in times of crisis. So far, 4,100 citizens have been evacuated from the region. Thanks to #rescEU, 356 🇪🇺 travellers stranded in UAE & Oman have safely returned home. @BergerLucie and @EUintheUAE staff were on the ground supporting this operation.

Iran’s attacks of a number of countries in the Middle East are inexcusable. The events must not lead to further escalation that could threaten the region, Europe and beyond, with unpredictable consequences. Just spoke to @MohamedBinZayed of the United Arab Emirates. I conveyed our full support and extended our condolences following Iran’s strikes and the resulting casualties. Europe strongly condemns these unjustifiable attacks. These attacks constitute a blatant violation of the UAE’s sovereignty and a clear breach of international law. And it is not the first time the UAE has faced missile and drone attacks from Iran and its proxies. Europe stands in full solidarity with partners across the region. I will continue my outreach to important regional partners.

The latest developments across the Middle East are perilous. Iran’s regime has killed thousands. Its ballistic missile and nuclear programmes, along with support for terror groups, pose a serious threat to global security. The EU has adopted strong sanctions against Iran and supported diplomatic solutions, including on the nuclear issue. I have spoken to Israel’s Foreign Minister Saar and other ministers in the region. The EU is also coordinating closely with Arab partners to explore diplomatic paths. Protection of civilians and international humanitarian law is a priority. Our consular network is fully engaged in facilitating departures for EU citizens. Non-essential EU personnel are being withdrawn from the region. Our Aspides naval mission remains on high alert in the Red Sea and stands ready to help keep the maritime corridor open.

In solidarity with the Ukrainian people, we raise the Ukrainian flag alongside the EU flag at @eudiplomacy HQ. This is more than a symbol. Ukraine’s future lies within the EU.
