This is all good and well, @wesstreeting. But I want to be clear on my position as an NHS consultant: 1️⃣Recognising Israel as an apartheid state, in line with major Israeli organisations, is not antisemitic. 2️⃣Recognising Israel as committing genocide, in line with Israeli scholars, Israeli rights groups and the UN, is not antisemitic. 3️⃣Recognising Israel as an illegal, biligerent, occupying power, in line with the International Court of Justice, is not antisemitic. 4️⃣Recognising Israel is engaging in a campaign of ethnic cleansing in the West Bank, in line with international human rights groups, is not antisemitic. 5️⃣Recognising Israel is run by convicted terrorists, self proclaimed fascists and a man wanted by the International Criminal Court, is not antisemitic. 6️⃣Recognising Zionism as an ethnosupremacist, European born, settler colonial project, designed to displace and replace indigenous and native Palestinians, is not antisemitic. I will keep speaking out, publicly, about these things, in line with my values of human dignity, human rights, the rule of law and in line with my freedom of speech and freedom of opinion.
Wes Streeting@wesstreeting

Recent incidents of antisemitism from NHS doctors filled me with shame and anger. I will not tolerate it - or any other racism. The NHS must be a safe harbour from the rising tide of racism in our society. Enough is enough.

In a new FOI response, the @gmcuk states it has no definition of "practising medicine" and that defining it is not within its role. A regulator that can't define the very thing it regulates is failing the public and the profession.

@DrLKVaughan I think what non medics fail to understand is that history taking is THE skill. It s not simply asking questions but it’s interrogating hypotheses based on background knowledge of possibilities

@ShaunLintern I've seen this happen far too many times and it's bad in soo many ways. I'm usually picking up the pieces (I'm a GP working in ED/Urgent care). Would be happy to be interviewed to support a piece on this?

My family had a recent experience of hospital care & we saw effect of this type of taskification of care. Pointless delays, miscommunication, unnecessary referrals etc. No one had the patient at the core of their thinking as they did their bit of the job - result was real anguish
Shaun Lintern@ShaunLintern

"For too long, we have trained ‘to role’ - often requiring individuals to complete years of training - when many tasks can be carried out with good supervision." Literally the taskification of care. This seems ignorant of the evidence around safety @alisonleary1 ?

I was chatting to a friend and we were discussing the strange way in which some politicians, presenters, journalists and commentators appear to have had a sudden epiphany about the slaughter of Palestinians in Gaza. She then reminded me of this book…

Diagnostic error is the most common, most costly, and most dangerous of medical mistakes. So why take the risk of being diagnosed by a PA? AU and the parents of Emily Chesterton will be in court next Tuesday. #AUvsGMC

Seeing undifferentiated illness IS SO HARD. And I have been doing this for 25 years. God my brain is exhausted and it’s not even 093! Especially since covid, nothing is as straightforward and seeing things that are hen’s teeth presentations.

@ponteepon @DrNeenaJha You are serious in disagreeing with that thread? If so, it shows a fundamental lack of understanding of how GPs assess undifferentiated patients both safely and at pace.

“PAs take histories” says BBC journalist. No. They don’t. There is a misconception of what history taking actually is People assume it’s an easy “tick box, info gathering exercise” Whoever thinks this is unfortunately completely ignorant to the art of history taking. 1/4

Health Secretary @wesstreeting has announced a review of the role of PAs. Physician Assistants - Yes Physician Associates - No Assistants support doctors rather than working in parallel with them or replacing them. And they should have their own regulator; not the GMC.

As a senior clinician I 💯 approve of @wesstreeting announcement of a review into associates But I am concerned it will be written around a predetermined outcome like so much of this debate has been Below is material is hope Prof Leng sees and takes into account 🧵 @RoySocMed

“To be a good leader? You need a wish bone, a funny bone and a backbone” A reminder to many in Colleges & NHS to try and develop that third one There is no point in “being in the tent” when the whole tent is on fire Thanks for listening to my TED talk #WednesdayWisdom

Disheartening to see snippets of @RCPhysicians EGM Seems their senior leader motives aren’t in the general interest of their members, other doctors, even public safety. It’s dangerous when anyone, let alone those in power, refuse to genuinely reassess when concerns are raised
