I served in Iraq and Afghanistan, and this looks familiar with new branding, shifting excuses, and the same bad math.
Iran is led by an evil regime with American blood on its hands. I am thankful Khamenei is no more. Yet what comes next may be worse and the American people do not support another endless war in the Middle East. This administration has yet to explain a clear mission, cost, or endgame.
Why should more American sons and daughters be sacrificed to this region?

As a former KC-135R pilot, this tragedy really hits close. By the looks of this photo, we almost lost lost two aircraft and crews. The aircrew did a fantastic job getting this one back on the ground safely. May the Warriors of the fallen KC-135 RIP, praying for their family and friends.

Same for the C-17.
Some idiot ran the math on how much gas could be saved by removing the parachutes. Parachutes were reduced from 5 to 2. Not enough for the entire crew.

About 15 years ago, someone got promoted suggesting that the parachutes on the KC135 wasted space. They were removed. Dumb stupid idea then. Could they have saved this crew? Who knows. But would be nice to have the option.

Aerial refueling is not for the faint of heart.
Lots of training required to master these procedures.

A USAF KC-135 has crashed over Iraq, possibly after a mid air collision. Aerial refueling has its perils. Pilots and crew make it look easy, but it is anything but. When things go wrong, the consequences can be catastrophic. Here is a clip from a few years back showing a near miss. Hair raising stuff!

U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) has announced the loss of a KC-135 "Stratotanker" over Iraq after an incident with another aircraft that landed safely. Rescue efforts are ongoing. CENTCOM states this was not due to friendly or hostile fire.

TAMPA, Fla. – As of 4 pm ET, March 2, six U.S. service members have been killed in action. U.S. forces recently recovered the remains of two previously unaccounted for service members from a facility that was struck during Iran's initial attacks in the region.
Major combat operations continue. The identities of the fallen are being withheld until 24 hours after next of kin notification.
