@Mismo_Mktg @uncomfybrain @TheAlphaThought That's bullshit, people tip off of how good the service is. Not because they feel sorry for anyone. You can continue to say and believe otherwise, do a good job and you are rewarded for it, that's how it is and should always be.

No one is giving 20% of the value of their meal as a gift. They are guilted into doing so because they know that if they don't, that human being is not going to earn any money. If they get a living wage (even minimum wage) then tips would be gifts/incentives. But as they do not, your tip is the vast majority of what they will make. Also the discussion is not about why people who need money take shitty jobs, it is about why restaurants are allowed to not pay their employees.
