Truly grateful to have my daughter by my side in Ottawa today for the 60th National Prayer Breakfast, joined by faith leaders from Oshawa, including Clarence Keesman from The Refuge Youth Outreach Centre and Pastor Kelvin and Jennifer Kauffeldt from Calvary Baptist Church. We were also glad to be joined by Pastor Steven Michel from Crosspoint Baptist Church and his daughter, and Dr. Al Stone of Bearing Precious Seed Canada. I am so thankful for the many people who lift me up in prayer each day as I carry out this work, and for the strength and perspective that brings. Moments like this are a powerful reminder of the importance of faith, family, and community. May God keep our land glorious and free.

I appreciated the opportunity to join my Conservative colleague @Jamie_Schmale on The Blueprint to discuss the real impact of President Trump’s unjustified tariffs on Canada’s auto industry and the Oshawa auto workers and families who rely on it, and Prime Minister Carney’s failure to get a deal — even though he PROMISED he was the person to get the job done! We also spoke about rising food inflation and how too many people in Oshawa are struggling to afford the basics, turning to food banks in record numbers. Conservatives have put forward serious solutions to protect local jobs and restore affordability. It is time for Prime Minister Carney to follow through on his promise to secure a trade deal with the U.S. Canadians cannot afford more delays — we need action that protects jobs, lowers costs, and delivers results.

On Friday, 1,200 auto workers in Oshawa worked their last shift, and behind every one of those jobs is a family now facing uncertainty and real fear about what comes next. What followed only deepened that concern. After these workers were walked out of the Oshawa Assembly Plant, we have heard that General Motors imposed mandatory overtime and weekend work on the remaining workforce. How is that fair? At a time when stalled trade talks with the United States are pushing Canadian jobs south, the Prime Minister previously dismissed those concerns by saying “who cares?” Today in Question Period, I asked if he cares now. Laid-off workers, current workers, and taxpayers deserve clear answers and real accountability from this Liberal government and from General Motors, not more smoke and mirrors.

Charlie Kirk promoted and practised the idea that people with conflicting worldviews can settle their differences through words, not violence. Sadly, too many people today have pushed the idea that "speech is violence", blurring the lines between the two. Yesterday's terrible events remind us that speech is not violence and violence is not speech.  Praying for Charlie Kirk, his family, and all our American neighbours.
