On Wednesday, @BitcoinAnambra hosted an in-depth online session with the CEO of @mavapay (@Extheo), one of Nigeria’s top on-ramp/off-ramp platforms, and it turned out to be one of our most practical conversations yet.
This wasn’t surface-level talk about “number go up.”
It was a real, hands-on discussion focused on the questions people actually have:
• How do I buy Bitcoin in Nigeria step-by-step?
• What exactly does an on-ramp/off-ramp platform do?
• How do I move my Bitcoin to a self-custody wallet safely?
• What mistakes should I avoid as a beginner?
A lot of people want to take Bitcoin seriously, but the biggest barrier isn’t belief, it’s execution.
They hear:
“Not your keys, not your coins.”
But nobody walks them through:
“How do I actually move from exchange to self-custody confidently?”
That gap between curiosity and confidence is where education matters most.

Day 1 of the inaugural Lightning Developer Bootcamp in Johannesburg in partnership with @abcptza was powerful 🇿🇦
Our instructor @dzeg5 covered Bitcoin fundamentals, the white paper, how Bitcoin works, keys and addresses, followed by a hands-on session where participants ran Bitcoin nodes, created wallets and addresses, mined to their own addresses, and executed Alice to Bob transactions using bitcoin-cli.
We were also excited to welcome @kelvinator05, Engineering Lead at Btrust, who joined us to support participants during the sessions.
The turnout was very impressive and the dedication to learning and asking questions truly stood out. Johannesburg has pleasantly surprised us. It’s gonna be an exciting week in JoBurg 🤩

Earlier today @Extheo took the @blinkbtc stage with an insightful talk on why Lightning is winning the African settlement race.
He shared how @mavapay is using the Lightning Network to make cross-border settlement between countries faster, cheaper, and far more seamless, without relying on stablecoin rails or expensive legacy systems.
An interesting takeaway was that volatility is a holding risk, not a settlement risk. What matters is building infrastructure that simplifies payments for everyday businesses across Africa.
