Studies (BMJ 2022 editorial; JAMA Network Open; Obstet Gynecol) confirm pregnant/postpartum women (up to 1yr) face higher homicide risk than death from top 3 obstetric causes combined (hypertensive disorders, hemorrhage, sepsis). Most (~70-80%) by male intimate partners. Homicide is a leading pregnancy-associated cause, though 2018-23 NEJM data shows unintentional overdose now #1 (5.2/100k live births), violence #2 (3.9; homicide ~68% of that).
