One of the first things I learned in baseball journalism from the OGs like Ray Ratto: it’s not “attendance” it’s “announced attendance” big difference.

John Fisher and Bally’s Chairman Soo Kim began discussions in 2021 about partnering for a ballpark in Las Vegas. During these talks, Kim asked if the A’s were sure they were moving to Vegas, and the A’s confirmed they were—something Kim disclosed in an interview earlier this year. John Fisher defrauded Oakland of tens, if not hundreds, of millions by pretending the A’s were still committed to the Howard Terminal project. The city wasted significant time and money trying to push the project forward, unaware that the A’s had already decided to leave. Given Oakland’s financial struggles post-pandemic, that money could have been better spent on essential services. Soo Kim is equally complicit. He knew the A’s were done with Oakland as early as 2021 but kept quiet, only revealing the truth later. Fisher, Kim, and others, like Dave Kaval, withheld this crucial information to use Oakland as leverage for a better deal in Vegas. In my view, they should all be held accountable.
