🚨 The emperor penguin is now officially endangered.
Climate change is shrinking the sea ice they depend on to breed, and when it breaks too early, chicks drown before they even have a chance. Some colonies are collapsing completely.

Until very recently, rock hyraxes were not known to live in Malawi’s Liwonde National Park – but now they’re a new addition to the park’s species list. A recent rhino tracking patrol spotted one of these creatures (which are actually related to elephants), making for a wonderful surprise sighting.

Heartbroken to report the loss of Forest Guard Harikesh Gurjar, who was killed by a tractor while stopping illegal sand mining.
Our green soldiers are on the front lines of a war for our planet’s future.
Deepest condolences to his family.
They’re cutting down 250 year old banyan trees in Nashik for the upcoming Kumbh Mela.
I want development in my city, but it honestly hurts to see trees that have stood for generations being cut down.
There are many ways to deal with such issues, but this just feels wrong💔
Your weather app runs on models built for London and New York.
Indian thunderstorms are 2-3km wide, last under an hour and form where no model predicted. The same GFS that nails London rain 3 days out struggles with Pune rain 3 hours out.
I built MausamNow to fix this. 5 models, live radar, satellite tracking, locality-level answers. Works across 38 radar stations in India.

In this study, authors propose DeepMaxent, a new species distribution models method for presence-only data that generalizes Maxent to multi-species deep neural networks with a direct relationship to a Poisson count loss. Read here 👇

"GNF acknowledged that the radar was not a weapon system.......... However, it cautioned that reducing the issue to a technical deployment would be a mistake, stating that the implications were far-reaching in political, social and historical contexts."
Another way of saying...... less Indian troops in the state? 🤔
This Global Naga Forum (GNF) is no less than a militant ideology NGO.
Why would a NGO oppose installation of IAF radar which is in interest of the nation.
NGOs like these are the reason why big developmental projects are obstructed coming to Nagaland.
A tech entrepreneur who recently moved to Florida got upset when he ran into obstacles while trying to build a house that could impact the habitat of Florida's endangered scrub-jay.
So now he's suing to strip the bird of its federal protection.

Fewer than 1,000 Bengal floricans survive in Asia’s shrinking floodplains. @dhritiz writes about the critically endangered bustard, the “dancer of the grasslands”.

What does it mean to study ecology across scales - from forests to the semi-wild, rural to the peri-urban, and cities and megacities?
At IIHS University, the PhD in Urban Studies and Practice brings together interdisciplinary research on climate, ecosystems, and human settlements.
Learn from faculty like Jagdish Krishnaswamy, whose work spans ecohydrology, biodiversity, and urban ecology across diverse geographies.
If you’re interested in research that connects science, systems, and society, this could be what you have been looking for.

🌿A century of vegetation change in temperate mountain forests shows that shifts in plant diversity were driven mainly by the cessation of human management, not by recent climate changes🌲 #ForestEcology#GlobalChange 👉️ buff.ly/zB0SyRJ
Why are some tropical trees total loners while others love a crowd? 🌳🍄 It’s all in the fungi! New research reveals: EcM trees are more chill—they thrive in clusters, which is why they dominate the forest reveals Akshay Surendra's research onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.111…
This year I encourage folks interested in ecohydrology, climate science, biodiversity, ecosystem services and Nature-based solutions to apply. We have long term sites in Western Ghats, Himalayas and Long-Term Urban Ecological Observatory (LTUEO) in Bengaluru.
