🔴 For years, I have closely followed the Emirati-Saudi relations. I can say that today we are facing the most dangerous decision that strikes at the bilateral relations in many long years, and its geopolitical repercussions will be significant. The UAE's withdrawal from the "OPEC" organization is a political rebellion against Saudi Arabia more than it is an economic step. This step is not merely an "economic option" resulting from the desire to increase production; rather, it has become an expression of an existential shift in Emirati policy, especially after the Iranian war. The UAE promotes the idea that withdrawing from OPEC is a response to the "falsehood of promises" related to Arab solidarity. But the truth is that the UAE's exit from OPEC represents the "earthquake" that could end the era of Saudi dominance over regional energy policies. And it will open the door to mapping out Emirati relations outside the Arab system, especially with Israel and the United States. 📷 I will explain this in detail and with great depth for those interested 📷 Saudi Arabia needs high prices (above $80) to fund "Vision 2030" projects, which pushes it to stick to production cuts through OPEC. In contrast, the UAE has a more diversified economy and production costs among the lowest globally, making it prefer increasing sales volume even if prices drop slightly to ensure capturing a larger market share. 📷 The relationship between Riyadh and Abu Dhabi has transformed in recent years from a "tight alliance" to "fierce competition" in the economy. And the withdrawal from OPEC represents the official announcement of the end of "economic dependency" on Riyadh's policies, and the adoption of "excessive nationalism" that places UAE interests above any consideration of Gulf solidarity. 📷 The Emirati withdrawal will lead to the weakening of the "OPEC+" alliance in a way that it may never recover from. 📷 The UAE serves as a safety valve within the alliance to balance Russia's "indiscipline," which often produces above its quota to fund its war effort. Without the UAE, Saudi Arabia will find itself alone in facing "free riders" like Moscow, which may push Riyadh to launch a "price war" destructive enough to restore discipline, as happened in 2020. 📷 The United States sees OPEC as a "cartel" that serves Russian interests and harms the American consumer. The UAE's withdrawal will be considered a "major victory for American foreign policy," because it will lead to the dismantling of Arab-Russian oil decision-making unity and weaken OPEC's ability to use oil as a political weapon. 📷 The compass of global demand is heading toward Asia (China and India). The UAE seeks to sign direct supply agreements with these powers, at the expense of OPEC's ability to control crude flows to the East. 📷 And in the real details standing behind the Emirati decision 📷 The UAE adopts a strategy based on producing the maximum possible amount of oil now to fund the transition to a green economy. There is consensus that the "golden window of demand" for fossil fuels may close by 2040. 📷 The UAE has invested more than $122 billion to raise its production capacity to 5 million barrels per day by 2030. However, OPEC quotas still force the country to produce at levels far below its true capacity (around 2.6 to 3.1 million barrels per day in previous agreements). 📷 Moreover, launching Murban crude as a global pricing benchmark requires supply flexibility that OPEC does not provide; the UAE aspires for Murban to compete with "Brent crude" and "WTI," and this requires letting market forces determine production volume, not the organization's political decisions in Vienna.🔴🔷🔷🔷🔷
