When speaking English, Portuguese people sound like Eastern Europeans. They should sound like Spaniards or other Western Europeans trying to speak English but they don't at all.

@BrianTree14 @SonnyLoki @stats_feed California won’t be broke if it doesn’t have to keep sending its money to support the rest of the broke ass predominantly red states that can’t support themselves without California taxes, no more fed taxes means California would be ballin and keeping all its money.

@SonnyLoki @stats_feed Cali is broke. Epic broke. Huge deficit. That top world economy they speak of would lose everything. They they lose water from other states. Collapse in months

@Dfsderek325 @matthew_rs @SonnyLoki @stats_feed That water is used predominantly for desert agriculture to feed the rest of the U.S. during the winter, wouldn’t matter to CA if it was cut off, you would just go hungry without California/Arizona food in the winter as they grow almost all of it that time of year.

@matthew_rs @SonnyLoki @stats_feed Outside of the fact that if neighboring states cut off water supply from the Colorado river they’d be screwed. Gonna give a slight lean to Texas due to them having their own independent power grid

@TreyLLauderdale @Afinetheorem It’s not a vocal minority, it’s majority sentiment on the central coast, from Santa Cruz to Santa Barbara, if we wanted to live in a major metro area we would move to The Bay or LA. We can develop a little, but no desire to become what outsider urbanist want from locals.

SLO resident for 5 years. The biggest challenge by far is lack of good paying jobs and major NIMBYism. Small vocal minority can stop almost any project. The two largest job providers are Cal Poly University (great school) and Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant (10% of the state's energy!). Almost every effort to build out more infrastructure gets stopped.

Urbanism Twitter is talking about SLO right now. In my view, the most wasted land in America. The two counties have perfect weather, beautiful coastal scenery...and the population density of Belarus or Missouri, growing 1/3 slower than US as a whole since 2000. Madness. 1/2

@SamaHoole Grows more than just lettuce, if you are eating a fresh vegetable/fruit from the months of Nov-March, it most likely comes from the CA/AZ desert, not just lettuce, going to need to go back to eating oatmeal and pickled pigs feet all winter like the old times.

America grows 70% of its winter lettuce in Yuma, Arizona. A desert. 3 inches of annual rainfall. It takes 39 gallons of water to produce a single head of iceberg lettuce. That water comes from the Colorado River. The same river whose reservoir levels dropped to 27% capacity in 2022, triggering the first federal water shortage declaration in US history. Iceberg lettuce is 96% water. It has negligible nutritional value. It travels an average of 2,400 miles to reach a plate on the East Coast. It arrives in a single-use plastic bag. It wilts in two weeks. The entire proposition, grow near-valueless water-filled filler in a desert, using water from a dying river, wrap it in plastic, truck it across a continent, exists because Americans want something crunchy under their ranch dressing in January. But it's plant-based, so it represents responsible food choices.

@PatrickSpenceDC @texasbozo @big_pedestrian Coachella and the whole CA/AZ desert are extremely important in the winter, almost all the fresh vegetables and fruits you see at your stores across all of America right now are being grown down there, Central Valley and costal California grow during March-Nov

@texasbozo @big_pedestrian The Central Valley's agriculture is extremely important and worth the water it consumes, but the Coachella Valley's isn't and understanding the difference matters!

“Release it into the ocean” means “have actual rivers.” The farmers of California believe they are entitled to every single drop so they can grow thirsty crops in the desert.
Rep. Kevin Kiley@RepKiley

Great news. After California failed to build major water storage for nearly 50 years, we've won federal approval for Sites Reservoir. Construction will start soon, adding 1.5 million acre-feet of capacity. This will help us save water rather than release it into the ocean.

@kamalot329 @nevada_c3po @Pro__Trading They very much do, I work in ag, the company owners/ field owners are generally white, conservative and big Trump supports, yet all they do is hire illegals immigrants and then complain about them being here like they aren’t the problem/ main reason for hiring them.

Oakland was alway rough but the whole Bay is downhill, tech killed it’s soul and drove away the actual normal people that made it what it was. Austin better take note

@LABorn100 @nidohime @mimisspirit @latimes You didn’t have to be in the meetings, this whole thing has been very public for years, you are just noticing. @nidohime @LABorn100 @mimisspirit @latimes And that right there is where the problem lies, people that don’t understand Spanish and how Spanish speaking cultures use their language trying to dictate their views on it. Mexico has a major problem with machismo and how they treat gay people, but this word in games is not it

@mimisspirit @nidohime @latimes I’ve never seen it mean that. J*to means f****t in Mexican Spanish. You grab a random paisa and give him $500 to call someone a f****t 9/10 will say J*to, the 10 will probably say M*aricon or something in that realm
