@paulg Ex: if I could tell an AI to refactor my Django project in GO (re-writing all supporting packages as well) I’d totally give it a spin.

@paulg If we can get AI to consistently and effectively re-write entire code bases (with great documentation) into new languages then I think we’ll see more of the transition you anticipated.

I expected technology to make programming less laborious, as it does to most things. But I have to admit I expected it to happen by programmers switching to more powerful languages, rather than continuing to write programs full of boilerplate, but having AIs generate most of it.

The striking thing about the reaction to ChatGPT is not just the number of people who are blown away by it, but who they are. These are not people who get excited by every shiny new thing. Clearly something big is happening.
