@steve_kosareff Sadly this is a nationwide issue. But we are drafting an ordinance that will give our police additional tools to address it. When you replace your catalytic converter, the police can etch an identification number onto it so that it can be traced.

@GleamDavis Mayor Davis, l am a long time resident of Santa Monica. Last night the catalytic converter was stolen from my car parked on Mills in Ocean Park. I'm now out of insurance pocket $1,000. Something needs to be done to stop this ongoing and citywide nightly thievery.

@dillonliam @CSElmendorf @elpaavo @expolineledger As the Mayor of Santa Monica, I want to be clear that the Santa Monica City Council has not directed staff to pursue this proposal. I do not know who discussed this with folks from Palmdale but they did so without authorization from the Council.
