New Yorkers need more housing and we need it yesterday.
I'm proud to announce Neighborhood Builders, a new program to rapidly speed up affordable housing creation on City-owned land. New Yorkers should not have to move out of the city to afford to heckle their politicians.

"We need to make this a city where it's affordable enough to yell at your politicians," NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani said on Wednesday during a news conference where he was making an affordable housing announcement.

People who avoid making eye contact are not necessarily shy; it’s just that their brains are working hard.
Making eye contact is one of the most challenging things your brain does because, at the same time, it involves processing emotions like happiness or sadness, self-awareness, and paying attention to others.
Researchers at Kyoto University tested this by having people perform a simple word task while looking into someone else’s eyes. They found that people couldn’t think as well while maintaining eye contact, because both tasks use the same area in the brain. However, once they looked away, their thinking ability returned immediately.
Similarly, a study at Stirling University found the same behavior in children. Kids who looked away while thinking about an answer were more likely to respond correctly than those who kept staring at someone.
Your brain has limited capacity for processing information. When someone is looking at you, your brain is already using a large portion of its resources to interpret the other person’s feelings, detect potential threats, and manage the pressure of being watched.

Avoiding eye contact isn’t always shyness, your brain is just working hard! 🧠
Looking into someone’s eyes uses a lot of mental energy: reading emotions, self-awareness, and focusing all at once. Studies show that when people look away, they actually think more clearly and answer better.
Next time someone looks away while thinking, don’t judge they’re just giving their brain space to work.
