Drift Protocol Hack Update (April 2, 2026) Drift Protocol on Solana was exploited yesterday. Around $270M–$285M was drained from the main vault in minutes. The vault went from ~$309M down to ~$41M. This is the biggest DeFi hack of 2026 so far and the second-largest in Solana history. The attacker used what looks like a governance/admin key compromise (not a smart contract bug). They pulled large amounts of JLP (~$155M), USDC, WSOL, WBTC and other assets, swapped to USDC, bridged to Ethereum via Circle CCTP, and bought ETH. Drift team confirmed an “active attack”, paused all deposits and withdrawals, and told users to stop interacting. They specifically said this is “not an April Fools joke.” DRIFT token dropped 25–40% on the news. Quick note: Even big protocols can get hit hard when admin keys or governance are weak.
