Introducing the Idaho 2 Goldback! 🐑 A bit of background on the artwork: 📖 It tells the story of the Basque community in Idaho and is set on the Basque Block in downtown Boise. 🩰 It shows a group of Basque dancers performing a traditional hoop dance called Uztai Txiki (Arco Dantza). 💛 In the foreground is the Basque cross, a traditional symbol of the Basque identity. 🐑 The sheep reference Basque immigrants in the late nineteenth century who worked as sheep herders. Today, sheep often roam the streets during Basque festivals! 🏔️ In the background, you can see the Boise Mountains, the Idaho State Capitol, and the Basque Museum and Cultural Center. This artwork was reviewed by representatives of the Idaho Basque Museum. We'd like to thank them for helping us keep historical accuracy! Meet the Idaho 25 Goldback! 💡 A little history behind this denomination: ⚡️ It's inspired by one of the most important scientific breakthroughs of the twentieth century, which took place at a research reactor in Idaho. ⚡️ On December 20, 1951, that reactor became the first power plant in the world to generate electricity from nuclear energy. ⚡️ Written on the board in the background is the exact fission reaction that led to this breakthrough. ⚡️ This artwork was created in direct collaboration with Idaho's state treasurer and celebrates Idaho's innovation and ingenuity. The Idaho 1 Goldback! 🌾 Here's some background on the artwork: 🪨 It tells the story of pioneer families crossing the California Trail. 🪨 In the background is the City of Rocks, a landmark in Idaho where the pioneers carved their names into granite. 🪨 It features wildlife native to Idaho: the pronghorn, the great horned owl, and the sagebrush lizard.
