Under the Electoral College, the President is elected by the states and it is the states who choose to run popular elections to select electors. This is actually an integral part of the longevity of the union, because the great compromise ensures that small states are not subsumed by a national policy driven be the population advantage of large states. Remove this framework and why would a state like Wyoming stick around and be dictated to by a government that only represents the coastal enclaves?

I co-introduced historic legislation to increase the minimum wage to $25. As someone who taught economics at Stanford, here is why it makes sense. The real minimum wage was $14 in 1968. Today it is half, but productivity has increased 2.5x. Instead of extractive capitalism, we need a free enterprise system that pays workers what they are worth.

@vhsdaddy @yonann My boomer parents did not become millionaires. They bought a house for 150K. Died owing 400K on it. Glorified renters. They went on a lot of vacations, though. Ran up a lot of CC debt. Could've been rich, but decided to be glorified renters who deferred routine maintenance.

If you constrain gun availability -- a lot of firearms are stolen -- then price goes up, and quantity demanded goes down. It also mitigates against an arms race dynamic, so fewer lethal weapons.

It does make you wonder though, some of the most dangerous countries in the world have relatively low guns per 100 people. Gun restrictions do not work. In reality criminals will always find a way to get a gun, and if you go the restriction route, you are just disarming all the innocent people. If everyone has guns it makes committing a violent crime a lot more risky, couple that with good self defense laws and the people of a country is a lot safer.

This is another example showing how Barack Obama is one of the most divisive figures in American politics today. So many of our divisions were caused by the smug, demeaning and narrow-minded way he treats his opponents. Here, he pretends to not know the truth about the would-be assassin, although the facts of his left wing views were public hours before Obama’s tweet. It’s classic Obama - pretend to be conciliatory while he is the one who creates the divide. You would hope that Obama would condemn the left after the left tries to kill a President. But that’s too much to ask. Once again, Obama proves himself to be a classless divider of our country.
