@zuhaitz_dev I'm gonna be a dick for a lil bit, but it's in no way harmless - you could end up reading a hw register, a peripheral, a file (etc) depending on what platform you're on. So just don't write bad code!

@Grim_Maple Yep! It's surely that. And in this case it's surely harmless (it's not like a buffer over-write). Either way, as the standard doesn't specify it, anything can technically happen. It's just a good habit to prevent UB (you don't want to deal with perhaps some heisenbugs).

This is actually not about the C library functions (which can work differently internally). The problem here is that str02 lacks a null terminator, so we end up with a buffer over-read. As this is UB, the compiler could start running Doom and it would not violate the standard.

I feel like there's nothing genuinely exciting happening with smartphones nowadays. Almost feels like they peaked and everything is genuinely the same now. Am I trippin or is this actually true? I need to get a new device, but there's nothing worth buying it feels like.

I haven't enjoyed programming for around a year atp. AI produces, in large part, bad software. Not because the AI is bad, but because people who shouldn't build software are now building software. What put me off is that people are fine with shit software. Perfectly fine.

what’s interesting is that as coding becomes less enjoyable, less people will be doing it. this used to be a highly rewarding, highly stimulating field. now it’s laboring at the slop factory. if you manage to hold on to your dignity your job is probably safe, even lucrative.

This thread is interesting 'cause people discuss the "system failure" pov. I think two better arguments exist: death penalty is likely to make crims more violent (nothing to lose), and death penalty morally normalizes killing, opening a debate window for whom it's legal to kill⬇️
