Does anyone know if @uipressdotco is still in business? No X post in a year, and they aren't responding. License didn't renew, and now I can't install.

@DJSnM It should be multimodal regardless. Possibly StarLink to get them up to speed, with a redundancy plan.

I don't know the details of this FAA/Starlink deal, but I should hope that whatever backend communications is used for critical infrastructure is not purely satellite based. In this day and age it should be internet over fiber/cell/satellite wherever possible. Firstly to ensure reliability if say a solar storm (or worse) interferes with LEO, and secondly, it needs to avoid anything that leads to vendor lock in so that there's a legitimate market (hence IP traffic over commodity networks).

@Timodc A pilot didn't follow air traffic control instructions. I suppose the pilot could have been hysterical over DOGE and was distracted, otherwise it's hard to see how DOGE caused this.

@philvischer Did she cross the border in Iran into the US? It seems there may be a few details missing from the story. Had she applied for asylum in the US?

A 27 yr-old Iranian woman converted to Christianity, and had to flee Iran (where conversion brings the death penalty). She fled to the US to seek asylum. The Trump administration arrested her, put her in shackles, loaded her on a military plane with 300 other migrants...

@aifiction_ Did you really believe Reacher could just move in and out of that compound...without any surveillance...? Up and down outside the house...running to the beach and back...? It's really absurd. And...I READ THE BOOK it's based on.

If you need evidence that Trump is mentally defective, this is it. On the *same day* he says he will hit Canadian oil with crippling tariffs, he says he wants a pipeline built...for Canadian oil. He's deeply, deeply stupid.

@AngelaBelcamino While being on the list is damning, is being on a list evidence enough for a life sentence? What if your name appeared on the list (maliciously of course)? Could a name be planted on the list for political purposes? Far-fetched, probably, but we're talking life sentence.

@ArtCandee All part of their plan to get rid of the FAA and hand air travel over to Space X. They've cut tower staff in half. They want reduced restrictions on when pilots can fly. They are creating a tragedy to force public opinion to privatize air travel.

A Southwest Airlines plane was forced to abort its landing this morning after a private jet taxied in front of it across the runway at Midway Airport in Chicago. Whatever that guy from The Real World is doing with the FAA has gotta stop.

WARP DRIVE: NOT JUST SCI-FI ANYMORE? Faster-than-light travel has always been stuck in the realm of Star Trek fantasies—until now. A new study suggests that tweaking the shape of a negative mass ring could slash the energy needed for a warp bubble from the mass of Jupiter to just 700 kg. NASA’s Dr. Harold White is already testing ways to create tiny warp bubbles in the lab. If he’s right, we’re looking at the first real steps toward bending space-time, no dilithium crystals required. It won’t get us to Andromeda tomorrow, but the fact that scientists are even discussing viable warp tech means the final frontier might not stay final forever. Source: The Bright Side

Elon should instruct everyone who manages staff to instruct their subordinates to report weekly to them and copy Elon. It may not appear to the average employee that Elon has the authority to ask for info. This would ripple down to everyone through the chain of command, rather than bottom up.

A teen genius with a 4.4 GPA and 1590 SAT Score—who was hired straight out of high school by Google for a Ph.D level Software Engineer position—was rejected by 16 out of 18 colleges including 5 UC Schools: Berkeley, Davis, UCLA, UCSD and UCSB. Now he’s suing for racial discrimination against “highly qualified Asian-American candidates.”

Dictators or wannabe kings fire generals who don’t agree with their politics. This isn’t a banana republic. What Trump and Hegseth are doing is un-American, unpatriotic. It's definition of politicizing our military, and we should expect to see loyalty oaths (not to the Constitution) and worse coming soon.

@JustineBateman My experience with chatbots is that they will never tell you when they don't know the answer. They will confidently lie to you. Having a chatbot teach you when you already know the subject matter would be amusing. Doing so in a new field could be disastrous.
