“Decolonizing Shakespeare” is an impressive achievement.
A man who died in 1616, never left England, and wrote about imaginary kings… is now part of a global colonial system.
Truly a mastermind.
The problem isn’t Shakespeare. It’s the need to force every piece of culture into “oppressor vs oppressed,” even when it makes no sense.
And once you adopt that framework, it doesn’t stop at playwrights.
It keeps expanding until entire groups of people get reassigned roles in the story.
We’ve seen how that ends.
If the goal is multiculturalism, here’s a thought: introduce people to more cultures instead of tearing one down.
Appreciation builds understanding. Reductionism just builds enemies.
