@GoeyGee @katya_zamo #2 is a common writing tool regardless of what language. Ilyas niece hasn't been mentioned by name in dialogue at all (as far as I'm aware) so saying her name in ep 5, we as an audience wouldn't know who they were talking about.

@katya_zamo 100% agree with u. Connor is phenomenal. My issues w/ writing as a russian speaker: 1) Sveta (as u mentioned) 2) we don't address our niece as "niece" when talking to family member (address by name) 3) face break threat (to alexey) is kinda meh (very weak) given the context.

Whatever I said about heated rivalry on the pod disregard that: having watched all the available episodes these are my opinions: 1. Connor Storrie’s Russian pronunciation is so damn impressive for a non-native speaker. And he speaks a lot of Russian in these last episodes. (The only issue I think is the writing—a lot of the dialogue does not read authentically Russian e.g. he would surely call his girlfriend Sveta and not Svetlana. But I could be wrong) 2. Spoiler: the kiss on the ice, while riveting (I screamed) is not based in any reality on earth that I know of. But WHO CARES? I want and need a hot gay fantasy that doesn’t end in assault, murder, or AIDS. 3. And to that point, if this season ends with some curveball tragedy I will send a strongly worded letter to my congressman and I encourage you to do the same. Lastly, I hope these actors are doing great and having the time of their lives. I hope it gets 3 more seasons. If you’re a network exec and you’re thinking about cancelling this show: DONT DO IT LITTLE GIRL!

@spudhawg @GetIntoGate Exactly my point. Wardrobe screwed up all the time. Upside down patches, wrong rank insignia etc We let that stuff slide because the dialogue is primarily what tells the story. Maybe you should find another podcast, we're clearly not for you. Bye.

@HighPitchMatty @GetIntoGate Indeed. And then imagine that someone comes along later and says we never find out what her rank was even though it was right there on the screen the whole time. Just like, for example, Walter’s rank (promoted twice, unlike Fraser). 😉

@spudhawg @GetIntoGate Right!? Then imagine having a recurring character on your show for 7 years, who's done more eps than some of your main cast, then write a huge 2 parter around their death, show their military funeral service and not once even say their rank out loud during it

@spudhawg @GetIntoGate Googling in 1997 vs 2025 is a very different experience. "We" as an audience don't know by just watching the show. We don't need it spoon fed, my point is there's dialogue about every one of Carters promotions, O'Neill's, Mitchell's, Sheppard's..... not Fraiser's.

Right, but we find out what it is. It’s right there on display. And if you’re a little rusty on your rank insignia because you don’t rightly acknowledge our status as the center of the universe, the Google machine is free. But if the issue is they don’t spoon-feed it to you in dialogue, say so. Because we DO find out. As for why they didn’t feel the need to spoon-feed it, maybe they felt the same way Cam Mitchell did. “Never underestimate your audience. They're generally sensitive, intelligent people who respond positively to quality entertainment.”
