Sadly, it's true. Amazon has elected not to move forward with the new Stargate series. There's not much I can add beyond confirming what's happened. But I will say this... Creator Martin Gero developed a new Stargate series over two years, ultimately crafting a show that offered a fresh jumping-on point for new viewers while deeply respecting existing canon. It was a series that avoided the pitfalls of several modern remakes and reboots by fully embracing the core of its predecessors: action, adventure, exploration, wonder, heart, humor, and found family. And based on that creative vision, the new Stargate series was greenlit in November of 2025. As of today, officially, that original vision is no more. We'll never get the opportunity to introduce you to that world and those characters - or reintroduce you to, and check in with, some familiar faces from the past. My heart breaks. For the incredibly talented writers who worked tirelessly to bring this show to life. For Martin who maintained an unwavering positive outlook throughout despite the challenges, and who always strove to make a show that would honor the fans while welcoming a new audiences. And for the long-suffering Stargate fandom who waited so long and came so close to getting a show they truly would have loved.

EXCL: Keir Starmer has become first UK PM to be presented with Légion d’honneur by French president, in recognition of his work on security of Europe. Emmanuel Macron awarded the historic honour to Starmer for his l'ship in setting up coalition of the willing at a critical moment for the continent in early 2025. Only other British PM to receive a similar award – at a higher level, the Grand-Croix of the Légion d’honneur – was Winston Churchill in 1958 in recognition of his leadership during the second world war. theguardian.com/politics/2026/…

@BaronDestructo Wait a second... Wasn't Starfury already in the round of 8? Are you counting the version with wings (Thunderbolt) as a separate fighter?

Today, I'm recommending four essential works by New Wave and feminist SF author Joanna Russ: The Female Man (1975): Four parallel women navigate alternate realities, from a stalled 1930s where the Depression never ended to a dystopian gender war. Humorous, inventive, and intellectually provocative. We Who Are About To… (1977): After a spaceship crash on a barren world, survivors attempt to rebuild civilization. One woman fiercely rejects their forced repopulation plan in this bleak, uncompromising survival tale. "When It Changed" (1972): Male astronauts arrive on Whileaway, an all-female world centuries after a plague wiped out men. Russ brilliantly subverts classic first-contact and "rescue" tropes. Souls (1982): This Hugo Award-winning novella follows a brilliant medieval abbess defending her abbey against Viking raiders, seamlessly blending historical and speculative fiction. Check out the quoted thread for the recommended works of Theodore Sturgeon, Alfred Bester, Bob Shaw, Clifford D. Simak, Algis Budrys, A.E. van Vogt, C.L. Moore, Cordwainer Smith, C.M. Kornbluth, D.G. Compton, Thomas M. Disch, Alice Bradley Sheldon (James Tiptree, Jr.), John Brunner, Judith Merril, Hal Clement, James Blish, Jack Williamson, Katherine MacLean, Fred Saberhagen, Jack Vance, Leigh Brackett, Edgar Pangborn, R.A. Today, I'm recommending four essential works by Kit Reed, whose prose the New York Times Book Review once called "pure dry ice"—skeptical, precise, and deeply satirical. Thinner Than Thou (2004): In a near-future America where the cult of the body has become the one true religion, the anorexic and the obese alike are handed over to the Dedicated Sisters—a convent order whose "cures" run to forced feeding and enforced starvation—while the Reverend Earl preaches the paradise of the "Afterfat." A brilliant, unsettling satire of diet culture and the worship of appearance that only reads as more prescient today. "The Food Farm" (1967): A heavy young woman is shipped off to a sinister reducing institution in this razor-sharp story of appetite, bodily control, and the tyranny of thinness—the clear ancestor of Thinner Than Thou, written nearly four decades earlier. "Automatic Tiger" (1964): A timid man buys a lifelike mechanical tiger and finds it lends him status and nerve—until it doesn't. A poignant, faintly sinister fable about borrowed confidence and manufactured identity, and one of Reed's most beloved stories. "The Wait" (1958): A mother and daughter find themselves trapped in a surreal town governed by inexplicable local rituals. Reed's very first published story remains one of her eeriest and most memorable. Check out the quoted thread for the recommended works of Theodore Sturgeon, Alfred Bester, Bob Shaw, Clifford D. Simak, Algis Budrys, A.E. van Vogt, C.L. Moore, Cordwainer Smith, C.M. Kornbluth, D.G. Compton, Thomas M. @BaronDestructo As a graphic designer, I once hid a silliouete of the F-302 amid a group of other US Air Force aircraft for a booth backdrop. The veterans and active service members loved the design, but only one spotted the 302 and gave me a quiet nod of approval. 🤣

Dark Matter - "Isn't That A Paradox?" A Blink Drive mishap sends the ship back in time to 21st century North America where the crew must go undercover as a typical suburban family. Fortunately, Android has them covered.

On This Day in Supervillain History 66 years ago, the Dummy made his debut in Batman #134, so-called because - in a clever twist on a classic act! - HE played the part of the dummy while actually controlling a manikin ventriloquist counterpart. But people still called him dummy.

Quick take: Crude oil is probably heading back to $80 as the base case for the conflict now looks like a prolonged skirmish with continuous negotiations. Tankers are passing through more easily. However, a level below $70 definitely does not make sense right now, and $74 feels reasonable given the failed peace talks. Yes, we were bearish when oil was at $110 in April and May, but now it looks like the recent move was an overreaction. Might be time to look at some energy stocks.
