Like the ASPPs, APE-1 localizes to cell junctions & binds PP1. Using jowls as a functional readout of the APE-1–PP1 complex we then discovered that localization to cell junctions is conferred by APE-1's N-terminal half, while its C-terminal ankyrin repeats regulate PP1 output.3/4
