This is very confusing. The Europeans on X all say that they do not need the US for their defense, but yet they are angry at America for withdrawing from NATO. Aren’t these positions mutually exclusive.

If Trump withdraws the US from NATO, Europe will quickly realize that it never needed it. The US was never going to defend Europe. They just want Europe to buy weapons and their stuff so they can continue controlling it.

So trump wants to leave NATO after France, Spain, Italy, and Germany spent the past month blocking American military operations, closing airspace, and calling Donald Trump's war in Iran illegal. They had defensible reasons for all of it. Trump did not consult them before launching the war, he has spent a year treating the alliance as a protection racket, and their electorates are opposed. The problem is not that Western Europe pushed back. The problem is who absorbs the consequences. Poland is spending 4.8 percent of its GDP on defence, the highest proportion in NATO. It armed Ukraine at real cost. It refused to send its Patriots to the Gulf because those batteries are guarding a border with Russia and Belarus, not because it was picking a fight with Washington. The Baltic states have exceeded NATO spending targets for years. These are the countries most exposed to what happens if Trump's threats produce something real, and they are the ones least visible in a debate being driven by governments whose exposure to Russian power is buffered by a thousand miles of geography. Western Europe's stability depends on the eastern flank holding, just as the eastern flank depends on Ukraine. That chain runs in one direction, and the pressure for weakening it is felt more in the east than the west of the continent.

As a European, I am not afraid that the USA will leave NATO. We already know that they do not have good intentions to Europe and that we, therefore, have to build our defence to be able to fight without the Americans. We are well on our way and it will happen a lot faster if the USA leaves NATO officially. Russia is too weak and small to be a long term threat to Europe. They simple can not match what we can produce. As long as we keep Ukraine from falling, Russia is also not a threat to us in the short term. So if the USA leaves NATO, it is simple for us: Keep Ukraine from falling at all costs and build up European defence and weapon production as fast as humanly possible. We can and we will do that and Europe will be absolutely fine and safe.

@other_europe France can supply weaponry to the European Army from their WWII experience. Rifles never shot and dropped once. BTW Germany is licking its chops for the opportunity of a third attempt to conquer Europe. Thats part of the reason US troops were placed there.
