@TimothyDSnyder He’s such a tosser. In HIS Nat Sec Strategy, a key objective is to keep the Strait of Hormuz & Red Sea open. “America will always have core interests in ensuring that Gulf energy supplies do not fall into the hands of an outright enemy, that the Strait of Hormuz remain open.”

@TimothyDSnyder CNN reports “I prefer just to take their oil” as a footnote. No screaming headlines about predatory behaviour. Media are either numb or billionaire owned and looking away. This is now America. 🙁

We lost a vanity war in the Persian Gulf and created a huge new problem for our allies. And now we say that it is their fault and that they must solve the problem we created.
Aaron Rupar@atrupar

Hegseth indicates reopening the Strait of Hormuz is not a core US objective: "We've been willing to lead, President Trump has led the entire time, but it's not just us. You might want to start learning how to fight for yourself."

1/ With losses escalating in Ukraine, a Russian region has ordered businesses to send their employees to fight. Varying recruitment quotas have been set depending on the size of the business. The 'voluntary-compulsory' scheme appears to be a de facto form of mobilisation. ⬇️

"Bucha" is the one-word answer to why Ukrainians cannot surrender land to Russian occupation. Land is people, and it means torture and death. Ukrainian victory is the only way the war ends.
Slava Malamud@SlavaMalamud

Three years since the liberation of Bucha. Three years since the world was shown the true face of The Great Russian Culture, something which it's still unable to acknowledge. Russians no longer bother to deny this, either. They are proud of it and want more.

1/ Russians fighting in Ukraine are now unable to buy Chinese-made drone jammers due to Internet blocking, according to one Russian soldier. His account illustrates the practical – and quite possibly lethal – frontline impact of the Kremlin's Internet restrictions. ⬇️

People need to understand that it is a good thing if Trump threatens to leave NATO and says the US will not fight for Europe. The truth was the alliance was dead the moment he became president again. The US under him would never fight to defend Europe from Russia. Pretending otherwise was dangerous.

Browder: Putin is taking Russia down the road to North Korea. He is ready to starve the population to have a strong military. But there may be a point when people no longer want to fight and draft starts angering the people. 3X

Browder: Trump is faced with almost no good choices on Iran. Either he declares victory with the Strait of Hormuz closed, putting Iran in a stronger position, or he tries to open it, putting U.S. soldiers in harm's way. Either option is a disaster. 2/

Browder: Putin's shut down the internet in Moscow and St. Petersburg. He's really scared. Russian government had a deal with their people — we do terrible things in Ukraine, you can live a happy life at least in St. Petersburg. Everybody isn't living a happy life anymore. 1/

The Allies carried out a massive aerial bombing campaign against German economic targets in 1944-45; the Nazi regime remained firmly in power right up to the surrender. There's no evidence that this kind of campaign leads to regime collapse.
OSINTtechnical@Osinttechnical

Israel has pivoted to striking Iranian economic targets as it aims to "create the conditions" for the Iranian regime to fall -Times of Israel Israel aims to cause massive economic damage to the Iranian regime.

Suffolk was the proof of concept. Romania may become the scaling node. Interceptor drones could become the export product. Ukraine is not just defending itself anymore. It is starting to reshape Europe’s defense industry from the inside.

That is where this story gets properly big. Recon drones matter. But interceptor drones could become a pan-European necessity. Because Europe is learning the same lesson Ukraine learned first: you cannot keep using very expensive missiles to kill very cheap drones.

And the most interesting part may be what comes next: interceptor drones. Reuters reported this week that Ukraine sees export potential in drone interceptors and says production could scale to 2,000 per day, with companies like UForce, Wild Hornets and SkyFall in the mix.

So the pattern is becoming clear: Ukraine fights. Europe hosts capacity. The border between “supporting Ukraine” and “building a European defense base” gets thinner every month.

And Britain may be only the beginning. Romania and Ukraine are now in talks on EU-funded joint drone production under SAFE. Romania has €16.6bn allocated through the programme, with €200m earmarked for joint drone manufacturing. Fifteen Ukrainian companies are already involved.

This is why the Suffolk factory is bigger than a single site. It is a signal that Ukraine’s defense industry is starting to spill into Europe itself. Not as charity. As industrial capacity.

The strategic logic is obvious: Design and combat feedback stay tied to Ukraine. Part of the manufacturing base moves into safer European territory. Production becomes harder to disrupt. And integration with NATO supply chains gets easier.
