It was great to talk to Mark Hughes (@MarkHughesSEC), Global Managing Partner for Cybersecurity Services at @IBM, last week, during Mobile World Congress 2026 in Barcelona. We talked about the timing of Quantum Computing going mainstream and its collision (positive and negative) with classical computing from security POV, what we generally refer to as Quantum Safe Crypto/Security. We also covered the convergence of 6G, Quantum and Enhanced AI in coming 3-5 years. Our discussion was focused on Telcos use cases, besides others. Here are the top Quantum Safe topics covered during our discussion: Purpose: To prevent "store now, decrypt later" attacks, where hackers steal encrypted data to unlock it once quantum technology matures. Algorithms: Replaces vulnerable methods with new, complex mathematical problems (e.g., ML-KEM, ML-DSA). Standards: Organizations are adopting standards from the NIST Post-Quantum Cryptography Standardization Project. Implementation: including using hybrid models—combining classical encryption with quantum-safe algorithms—to ensure security without immediate, massive disruption. Target Areas and Actionable Advice: Protects financial transactions, medical records, government communications, and cloud data.
