When did the removal of healthy breasts become something to celebrate? It’s a question I began to ask after my own experience of breast cancer. Last year, the prospect of losing a breast made me realise just how attached I was to a part of my body I’d barely thought about before. I still live with the after-effects of surgery. “Top surgery” and “double mastectomy” both involve the removal of breast tissue. Yet one is presented as empowering, while the other is associated with fear, grief and loss. My latest for @spiked. Link in the comments below 👇
