MCS are moving relatively fast and is moving into some unstable air allowing a weakening trend. There is plenty of clear skies to the south and southwest of this, so rapid destabilization will occur once the complex gets through IL. This is still around an hour ahead of most model guidance. Central IL and western IN will be extremely favorable for strong/long-tracked tornadoes later today.

Wednesday continues to look like a significant severe weather event may unfold for portions of IA, MO, IL, IN, and maybe KS. The timing of the rather potent embedded shortwave has moved up slightly over the broad warm sector. More forcing and little CAP may lead to morning convection that will probably alter the environment and push the warm front around more than models are predicting. However, it could drop an outflow boundary for the afternoon round of storms as well that will get ironed out once Wednesday comes around. Kinematically, the setup is strongly favorable for very large hail and several tornadoes given the nose of a strong LLJ creeping into IL by the early evening hours, moderate bulk shear, and at least 40 knots of directional shear. The overspreading shortwave could lead to supercells in the warm sector, especially with the early, or near perfect arrival. There may be a slight warm nose that could help with more discrete convection. Eastern KS and southwest IA may struggle to ignite. Either way, there will be changes.
