From what I have read, more experts are starting to theorize that any “process addictions” are more likely to be compulsive disorders As well, in terms of gambling in a casino or similar venue, there are a plethora of environmental factors that intentionally contribute to the repetitive behaviour, and therefore the gambling itself can’t be isolated as the stimulus causing the behaviour The most important thing is that these “addictions” cannot be treated effectively on an addiction model. Trying to treat compulsive gambling the same way one may treat alcoholism will most likely fail

It’s clearly, obviously real. But everyone wants to hinge acknowledging its existence along political lines. Social media addiction is real too. And video game addiction. Observable process addictions that people develop. They are distinct from any moral judgment of the behavior.
