Today, Tim Sweeney and Epic Games laid off over a thousand highly-skilled, long-time developers working on Fortnite. Unfortunately, this isn't new. We are tired of years of mismanagement at the cost of skilled people's jobs. Your wallets tell them what you want. #BoycottFortnite

@SirRifty Exactly, as I kept explaining in a very vulgar manner, the trending maps are either modes that already exist, or are just clones from Roblox. Everyone who has put their soul into their creations are swept beneath their carpet, and it's not okay.

As a UEFN Creator who strives for the best quality maps, we do not want these maps in the ecosystem. Way too many of them, and 9 times out of 10 are mainly made for a quick buck. I notice a ton that actual QUALITY maps are buried beneath the giant desert we call Discover.
XSET Twizz@419twizzz

SypherPK explains the reality of the Fortnite UEFN ecosystem. "Simple ass maps make millions and real developers put time and money into quality games which don't get views, so they leave & you end up with just simple Roblox maps."

🚨 Epic Responds to Ballistic Shutdown After announcing Ballistic is being sunset, Tim Sweeney shared more context: • These modes rely heavily on internal UE5 C++ systems • UEFN doesn’t yet have the features needed to support games at that level • Epic’s focus is on shipping those missing tools to creators

@Ake_UEFN @ImmatureGamer It was! But we got 80% of the way, and realized the proper Verse support for the remaining 20% was a year away on the roadmap, so we did that 20% in C++. This has happened time and time again, thus the new plan to combine teams & efforts to accelerate the missing Verse bits.

Look, I will say this as respectfully as possible. He did not "take one for the team". Epic Games is owned by the owner of Unreal Engine, which is used by a huge amount of games. Sweeney makes roughly 5.1-9 BILLION. With a B. Based on Net Worth, if Tim Sweeney were to use his ENTIRE estimated net worth of $5.1 billion (the lower Forbes estimate from March 2026) to pay employees an annual salary of $125,000, he could fund 40,800 employees for one year BY HIMSELF. Let's assume that the devs made 125k each (obvi variables), to keep all 1000 at that rate is $125m, leaving Sweeney, at the low estimate, an annual worth of $4.9 Billion. That's assuming his stock package doesn't pop as a result of retaining that talent, mind you. These are the folks that made him this profit. As literal as you can possibly take it. What is offered is NOT commeasurate nor is it "oh how nice", it's bare minimum for locking the talent that made you a pop culture behemoth behind restrictive NDAs and taking away their security in an economic crisis. You need to save $500 million? SELL SOME SHARES AND PROTECT YOUR STAFF. Defending this person who chuckled that they can fight Apple bc infinite money and had enough to buy hundreds of thousands of forest in NC for conservation while his dev team is left in the cold and the rest have to fear when it's their turn is insanely nasty work. You can't honestly defend that if you have empathy.
XSET Twizz@419twizzz

NickEh30 defends Tim Sweeny for doing as much as he can for the laid-off employees. "You can still voice your opinions, but be respectful."

@DemShenanigans Net Worth ≠ Liquid cash, and he's not making 5 billion a year, that's how much his assets are worth cumulative from all his life's work. Supporting many employees from his own pocket is unsustainable and he would quickly run out of money.

@MatRopert For a bloated corp or company? sure. For a company like Epic that mainly hires only the best people who WANT to work on these things? Duh, effectively immune. Probably best not to equate how Epic is run with how Unity or other public unionized company is run.

Is everyone being replaced by A.I. at Epic Games? Just 1 year ago Tim Sweeney said Fortnite had BILLIONS of dollars in the bank and they were good financially. Why are they laying off 1,000 employees now? "We've chosen to re-invest heavily in building what we think is the future of technology." Sooooo is that AI? I originally posted this clip 2 weeks ago when the V-Bucks shrinkflation happened. My original theory was that they invested HEAVILY in an AI company or acquired one and need to recoup their investment Now after today's news of everyone getting fired my theory seems even more possible. What do you think is going on? How can Tim say they are more than good financially and then literally 1 year later all of this happens? Tim what happened?

EPIC GAMES LAYS OFF OVER 1,000 EMPLOYEES "Today we’re laying off over 1000 Epic employees. I'm sorry we're here again. The downturn in Fortnite engagement that started in 2025 means we're spending significantly more than we're making, and we have to make major cuts to keep the company funded. This layoff, together with over $500 million of identified cost savings in contracting, marketing, and closing some open roles puts us in a more stable place."
