The Republic based itself on cossack principles - its leaders were known as Otaman (like the Zaporozhian predecessors) and soldiers were known as cossacks. Among the several thousand partisans there were soldiers from the Kuban (Otaman Uvarov), Kyiv, and Halychyna. 8/13

@tipofthespear42 Yes! Sunak + Starmer. Biden + Pompeo. Support for Ukraine should not be partisan. Regardless of other things these people might represent, their support for Ukraine is worthy of respect.

One of America's political leaders in Ukraine, getting the ground truth and facts of this conflict. In my humble opinion, this is an amazing example of leadership. I'm not posting this for a political debate only posting because this is someone in a position of authority doing the right thing.

@TetySt There are levels? I'm so confused by their system since they changed it. Just approaching a 1 year streak on their Ukrainian course though. It's not for learning from scratch though, just to keep me on the straight and narrow.

@1deedeeonlyD @reshetz I'm going to guess they spoke the same languages as their parents. Regardless of what language that is, it's never a valid reason for stealing children. And no right thinking person would assume that it was.

@reshetz Do a lot of the kidnapped children speak Russian or Ukrainian? What about those that speak only Ukrainian? If the children are ethnic Russians (but UA citizens) do the RU use that to claim they're not committing genocide? Belova was quoted once as saying they're "our" children

17 Ukrainian children were returned from russian captivity today. From an interview with one of the kids: ‘we were beaten with metal sticks, punished for saying ‘glory to Ukraine’, they said the liberation of Kherson is fake and that we’re forever the children of russia’

@saintjavelin He also suggests that if you want to understand russians, you should read newspapers from 1712... neatly confirming what we've known since the start, that they're stranded in their imperial past, and don't even understand themselves.

@saintjavelin If Ukraine had an Oscar win this year it was Mariinskyi Palace as the featured location for the clip to the "Best original song", Naatu Naatu. A bit strange seeing the British flag flying over the Ukrainian President's official residence, but still, a fun clip.
