USA wants three new military facilities in Greenland The United States is quietly negotiating with Denmark to gain access to three additional defense areas in Greenland—beyond Pituffik Space Base (formerly Thule Air Base) in northern Greenland. This was stated by General Gregory Guillot, commander of United States Northern Command, during a Senate hearing in Washington on Thursday, March 19. At the same time, the American top general described Denmark and Greenland as “highly cooperative,” saying that all U.S. requests are being accommodated and that everything can be handled within the existing 1951 defense agreement between Denmark and the United States. According to General Guillot, there are “three defense areas that we would like to negotiate with Denmark and Greenland about.” Possible locations Marc Jacobsen, a lecturer at the Royal Danish Defence College, said the general’s remarks indicate strong communication between senior military officials in Denmark and the U.S.: “That is positive for Denmark.” The Senate hearing did not specify which areas are being considered, but Jacobsen suggests three likely candidates: —Narsarsuaq in southern Greenland, which has a deep-water port —Kangerlussuaq in southwestern Greenland, capable of handling large aircraft —A deep-water port near Pituffik Space Base These locations are notable because they were among the first places where the U.S. established military bases in Greenland. Rustem Umerov reported on the outcomes of meetings and negotiations in the Middle East and the Gulf region. We are engaging in detailed discussions with partners at all necessary levels. Our teams are already working with five countries on countering “shahed” drones – we have provided expert assessments and are helping build a defense system. Additional requests have been received from other states. There are also requests from the U.S. side regarding expert support for their military personnel in two areas of the region. We are also reviewing requests from European partners whose forces are based in the region. Ukraine is committed to the swift and reliable stabilization around Iran, which has global significance for oil and gas markets and therefore for pricing, particularly in Europe and Ukraine. We also take a principled stance on the unacceptability of any success of the terror campaign of the Iranian regime – a long-time accomplice of Russia. Nowhere in the world can terrorists be allowed to determine the fate of people and countries. We also discussed opportunities for international cooperation to restore security in the Strait of Hormuz. I tasked Rustem Umerov with involving Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and our military to assess existing international initiatives concerning the Strait of Hormuz and the real readiness of countries to participate in stabilization missions. I expect specific data from this assessment in the near future. Importantly, all our partners acknowledge Ukraine’s global role in ensuring security and the high quality of Ukraine’s security expertise for the protection of life. Glory to Ukraine!
