@GergleBipper @traeshark You’ll be thrilled to know I’m not a Christian and don’t believe in hell or heaven or the silly doctrine and that I’m not actually being a cunt. You’re just really fucking stupid and don’t want to admit your morality is shaped by Christianity. Not my problem, retard. lol

@SteamDroid_fmg @traeshark You’re describing the golden rule which is derived from Christian morality and ethics lmao. You’re like the 4th person to use this exact example in this thread. You simply dont comprehend the extent to which Christianity has shaped you and you think it’s your own idea. Hubris.

@ElectricDire @traeshark None of that disputes the claim that western atheists derive their moral sense from Christianity, and that they’re radically different from non-western atheists. Morals and ethics are culture-bound. You’re from a Christian culture. Stop pretending to not understand.

@InsaneFBposts @traeshark No, thats the flawed part, both atheis and christians got Their values from older things and without them the world wouldnt be the same, but thats still the same method, You are ignoring that both could change and are practically the same source

@TerCayle @Aziedownunder @GergleBipper @traeshark And yet atheists in both of those regions cite the exact same things when you probe them about where they derive their moral compass. How strange! I don’t think you realize how different the states morality systems are between western and non-western atheists are.

@InsaneFBposts @Aziedownunder @GergleBipper @traeshark For the same reason being an asshole in New York is different from being an asshole is Portland. Culture is geographic as much as it is historic. I don’t disagree that western morality is based on Christianity, but even among the west there are heaps of different moral systems.

@imperatorgaia @SR23Enthusiast @traeshark There’s no way you’re making the argument that I’m using a red herring and derailment tactics while saying that secularism as a whole is a breakaway from Christianity lmao. You’re so ignorant it’s hilarious.

@InsaneFBposts @SR23Enthusiast @traeshark No. You're the one bringing in entirely unrelated facts as a red herring to derail from the knowledge that secularism isn't a continuation of Christian ethics but rather a complete iconoclastic breakaway.

@SR23Enthusiast @traeshark Thats fine. I never said that’s where they all come from. We’re talking about a very specific cohort (western atheists) and the fact that their moral compass is clearly derived from their culture which has Christianity in its DNA. They can adhere to the morality without the faith

@InsaneFBposts @traeshark i mean christianity’s defo influenced morality at least historically but if ideas around morality which we hold today existed before it it can’t be where all ideas of morality atheists hold come from

@Aziedownunder @GergleBipper @traeshark That’s fine because I never claimed to be a good person or any of the other bullshit you and others tried to slap onto me lol. All I said was that western atheists adhere to Christian ethics whether they realize it or not. It’s not that complicated.

@Aziedownunder @GergleBipper @traeshark If you were raised with the golden rule, to stand up to bullies, to practice tolerance and charity, if you ever used a hospital, etc etc etc, congrats you were inundated in Christian culture lol. Axel I think you need to travel to non-western nations for like even a month.

@InsaneFBposts @GergleBipper @traeshark Christian culture? Christians don't have a culture, and even if it did, their culture isn't crystals, good vibes and saves lives lmao, it's stone the orphan, hate the mentally ill and preach love while hating certain groups of people for existing, I wasn't raised how you assume.

@Beyond_Polygons @traeshark Like, it’s just completely lost on them that the corrective mechanisms they use for their sense of morality only exist in the context of shared culture. There a million things you could do in the West that would get you the ‘asshole’ label that wouldn’t matter in the East.

@traeshark @InsaneFBposts Isn’t the “I’m only not an asshole because I don’t want to be an asshole.” The same as doing it because of “eternal damnation.” Why wouldn’t you be an asshole? Because people will think less of you. That’s akin to karmic thinking, which is all Christianity is saying too.

@TerCayle @Aziedownunder @GergleBipper @traeshark Morality absolutely comes from different places, which is why there are different and even competed systems of morality around the world. Being an asshole in a western country has a different threshold than it would in an Asian country, for example. Why is that?

@InsaneFBposts @Aziedownunder @GergleBipper @traeshark Morality doesn’t “come” from anywhere. We just kind of think and feel man, that’s the thing with this whole life deal. Not wanting to be an asshole has been around longer than abrahamic religion, so that means people before christ could certainly figure it out.

@ElectricDire @traeshark It’s not flawed logic you’re just ignoring the point I’m making and strawmanning me lol. My point is that western atheists adhere to a Christian moral framework without realizing it. And thus becomes apparently the moment you probe even a tiny bit.

@InsaneFBposts @traeshark so you are saying that both didnt do anything? bc thats basically my point by you saying "the only difference" stop with that flawed point and explain how following something is different than following something in that context of the meme

@imperatorgaia @SR23Enthusiast @traeshark That’s not my point at all. My point is that western atheists’ sense of moral intition is actually a long and unbroken chain of Christian ethics that is still applicable to our culture regardless of their degree of faith. You’re just strawmanning me and it’s dumb af.

@InsaneFBposts @SR23Enthusiast @traeshark Oh and that proves your point in what way? That because we have freedom of speech in a liberal western society due to generations of intellectual advocacy for secularism then automatically that gives you a gotcha moment? Lmao.

@traeshark Like you’re just taking the very long route to eventually land on “my and all the people around me use the same moral compass because our culture’s DNA is influenced by Christianity.” You’re just very reluctant to admit it. You don’t have to be closeted Christian to be honest.

@traeshark Right, and where do the people around you -who would presumably take issue with your antisocial behavior- have derived their sense of objection to your behavior? Again, the reason you think these things are common sense is because they’re the ethics of your (Christian) culture.

@ElectricDire @traeshark Western atheists are a perfect example of what you’re referring to btw. They don’t explicitly follow the lord’s word as the bible would have them, but in practice they adhere to its teachings. The only difference is that they pretend they came up with it lol

@ElectricDire @traeshark You’re not going to get any milage out of your argument by pretending that formalized Christianity has not shaped the modern world in multiple avenues from education, law, human rights as a concept, and the entire creation of the first hospitals and healthcare.

@alejo_fossati @Aziedownunder @GergleBipper @traeshark Like do you not understand that if you were to travel to most places in the world, that ‘mutual respect’ intuition you have would be used against you in a heartbeat? You think it’s intuition because everyone around you plays by the same rules. Travel a bit.
